The Borough of Chester is a 1.6 square mile village centered on a main street lined with specialty shops, old homes, and historic buildings. Widely known for its distinctive charm, Chester Borough draws many visitors who enjoy a day in the country atmosphere. The surrounding Chester Township is a 29.3 square mile residential community made up of farms, estates, and attractive housing developments.
The two municipalities share other common bonds in addition to the school system. These include the public library, an active athletic association, a theater in the round, and many civic organizations. Chester Borough has a mayor/council form of government. It shares many services with Chester Township.

Chester is noted for its excellent school systems. The borough and the township share their elementary schools. The high school is West Morris Mendham, which is part of the West Morris Regional High School. Chester borough students, along with Chester Township and Mendham students attend West Morris Mendham.

Chester Township Parks
Though rural in nature, Chester Borough is located at the crossroads of Routes 206 and Route 24. Route 206 leads to Route 80 to the north and Routes 287 and 78 to the south. Route 24 will take you to Morristown, Route 10 is easily accessible via backroads and the Gladstone train station is a short ride away.
A great way to meet others and become involved in Chester Borough, is to join one of the many service organizations that exist in the town.
With its close proximity to New York City and Morristown, residents can easily access those areas to enjoy the arts; however, there are local in-town options.

Chester Borough has a quaint main street with many unique shops and 3 other shopping areas, The Chester Springs Mall area which houses a Shoprite, Marshalls, Home Goods, Panera Bread, Starbucks and other various shops and restaurants. The Chester Shopping Mall, which houses Walgreens, The Chester Meat Market, Breslows Paints and other small shops and the Streets of Chester Mall which is primarily clothing stores; Gap, Ann Taylor, Joseph Banks, Talbots, etc.
